The Seed Company is capable of cleaning about 11 metric tons of soybeans per hour. The soybeans
are cleaned using the following process: sizing, spiraling, color sorting and aspiration.
The Sizer uses various screens which eliminate undersized soybeans as well as splits and foreign
materials. The result is clean, evenly sized soybeans. Evenly sized soybeans are important for
manufacturers of tofu and soy milk.
The Spiral Cleaner is used to select round soybeans. Split or damaged soybeans are removed in this
cleaning process. Soybeans which are damaged or elliptical are removed in this process. The result
is round, evenly shaped soybeans. This process improves the germination and average NSI of the
soybeans.
The Color Sorter eliminates discolored soybeans by using pneumatic power. Dirty soybeans
and discolored soybeans are eliminated in this process. This produces soybeans free of dirt
and diseased soybeans.
The Aspirator uses wind suction to remove dust, hulls and light soybeans - as well as other light
materials. This is the final step in the cleaning process and results in a dust free, clean product.
The soybeans on the left are uncleaned. The soybeans on the right have been cleaned and are food
grade.
